What I’m Learning this Week 4/2/17 – 4/8/2017

After a lot of praying, I’ve made a decision to start over. Not with the blog, not with the Etsy Shop, but with my vocation in general. I’m no longer going to just wish that I was an entrepreneur; I am going to be one. In addition to my blog and Etsy shop, I’ve decided to finally pursue something I’ve always had a knack for: web and graphic design. By no means am I quitting my day job… yet. I’ve got a long way to go before I can do that, that’s for sure! However, I am setting the ground work to become my own boss.

This week, I’m kicking off with two books: WordPress for Beginners 2017 and Adobe Illustrator Classroom in a Book. These are two subjects that I feel I can take valuable information from for both my current and future business ideas.

What is WordPress and Adobe, you may ask?

WordPress is a Content Management System and hands down the most popular for blogging. It’s versatile, has many different plug-ins that can do just about anything you might need to do for a website (including e-Commerce), and themes that you can manipulate to make a site look and perform in certain ways. My husband is so awesome that he’s setting up a test server for me to install WordPress and play around with. I’m so lucky to have a husband that encourages me to follow my dreams and strengths. I don’t know what I’d do without him.

Adobe Illustrator is a graphics software that you can make all kinds of things in! Including Downloadable Content for Etsy, images for the web/publications/etc. I’m incredibly excited to start digging into this book! Of course it’s also scary, but it’s scarier to think that I could sit on the sidelines and only dream about learning these things instead of actually doing it.

Like the Etsy shop, this is a big undertaking, but anything worthwhile is never easy. As the great Jon Acuff says, I’m ready to punch fear in the face!
